Protecting marriage from the beginning
The Catholic Marriage Covenant seeks to collaboratively develop legal documents that can be used in place of a government marriage license that will protect a Catholic marriage and the rights of the spouses.
A marriage contract can:
Clearly define the vows of the marriage and the rights and duties of each spouse within the marriage
Deny marital assets to a spouse who breaks the marriage vows
Provide remedies to repair the marriage if the vows are broken
Discourage divorce and encourage the keeping of the marriage vows
We welcome your feedback.
Please have any legal documents reviewed by an attorney that is familiar with the laws in your state.
If you have had a Catholic marriage contract reviewed by an attorney, reviewed by your Diocese or have signed a Catholic marriage contract we would love to hear about it so we can improve the information on this website.
